Beijing - Day 1

Mr. How - Local Chinese Artist
Day 1

Today we all went to see the Forbidden City, Tiananmen Square, and we got to visit with a man that owns a traditional old Chinese style house.

It was all very exciting, but I think for the me, the most fun was visiting with the gentleman.  Turns out he is a local artist and is part of a local artist guild.  He teaches students the old Chinese Calligraphy on a part time basis.  we got to see some of his work and it was remarkable.  I told him through our interpreter that my mother-in-law is an artist and his whole demeanor changed.  His face lit up and he seemed very proud to show off his work.  Wish I could have bought something.  The painting you see are in his studio and done by him.  The one I like the best is the one on the left.

The Forbidden City and Tiananmen Square were remarkable.  The scale of these locations was so large.  Much larger than I was expecting.  The whole time I was viewing these locations, I kept trying to picture what they must have looked like in their golden ages. Just mind boggling.

Tomorrow we are going to the Great Wall and then in the evening to an acrobatics show.  I'm imaging that its going to be another great day.

I'm having trouble getting pictures off of the SD Card, so I will have to post more pictures later.  SORRY!!
